Aerospace advanced materials

Flammability and heat resistance are important considerations in aircraft. Regulatory specifications can often be met by coating electrical, electronic and structural materials in covering films.

Kapton® polyimide films

Kapton® offers a unique combination of electrical, chemical and mechanical properties. Its ability to withstand heat is the most outstanding property of  Kapton® polyimide films. Kapton® will not sustain or propagate

flame. Nor will it produce any significant smoke when exposed to

flame. UL rated at 220°C to 240°C (428°F to 464°F) for continuous service,

Kapton® can function for brief periods after exposure to temperatures

up to 400°C (752°F). It also retains its high dielectric strength even at elevated temperatures, at 300°C (572°F). It also performs well at the other end of the temperature scale, retaining its properties and flexibility at 269°C (-452°F) without becoming brittle.

Kapton® polyimide film is used on the windings of large coils for motors, flexible circuits, electrical insulation, thermal barrier in electronics and other aerospace applications.  Kapton® polyimide film is compatible with many high-temperature impregnating varnishes, including polyimides, esterimides, epoxies, silicones, amides-imides and organo-silicones, used to make today’s electrical equipment.

Mylar® Polyester PET films

Mylar® Polyester PET is ideally suited for a wide range of uses such as packaging, printing, die-cutting, electronics, protective overlay, barrier protection, apparel and other industrial applications. Because of Mylar® Polyester PET's inherent physical properties, it's your best choice for a high performance plastic film/sheet. Its main features are Dimensional Stability, Lay Flat, Chemical Resistant, Consistent Colour, Good Clarity, Non-Yellowing, Non-Tearing, Heat Resistant to 200 degrees C, Electrical Resistance. Mylar® Polyester PET films have balanced tensile properties and excellent resistance to moisture and most chemicals. PET can withstand temperature extremes from 100°F to 300ºF. Mylar® Polyester does not become brittle with age under normal conditions, because it contains no plasticizers. Many types of Mylar® Film are available.
