Summit Aviation JT8D-200 series engine repair and overhaul
PRESS RELEASE Date: 7/9/08
Repair and overhaul specialists Summit Aviation are launching a new purpose built
workshop facility, designed to meet the needs of the company’s expansion into
production and maintenance of the Pratt and Whitney JT8D-200 series engine.
The new 100,000 sq ft facility situated on the Airport Business Park close to Kent International Airport is
regarded as a major business progression for Summit Aviation, expanding the company’s specialist services in Pratt
and Whitney engine overhaul and leasing to a working capacity of 10 engine bays and a minimum of 40 engines per
year.
The expansion has already resulted in the signing of two individual major contracts signed in July 2008 with
European operators Windrose Air Company, Ukraine and the Swedish company Nordic Airways, for the overhaul and
repair of their Pratt and Whitney JT8D-200 series engines.
The contracts have a potential value in excess of $12 million dollars over the next 4 years.
Bruce Erridge, commercial director at Summit Aviation explains “the completion of the new engine shop has been
designed to coincide with Summit Aviation attaining EASA 145 / FAA 145 approval on the JT8D-200 series”. The
company is now able to provide all required maintenance processes for the complete repair or overhaul of the
JT8D-200 series tailored to suit each customer’s maintenance schedule requirements.
Summit Aviation plans to build on their reputation for reliability and cost-effectiveness developed through 18
years experience in the repair and overhaul of JT8D (std) and JT3D engines. The expansion of Summit’s highly
trained and experienced workforce will mean the company is now well placed to meet with the current high demand for
operators looking for JT8D 200 maintenance globally. The development has greater significance in the wake of the
closure in 2007 of Volvo Aero’s Trollhättan facility in Stockholm leading to new opportunities for
Summit.
• Established in 1990, Summit Aviation is a privately owned company based in Broadstairs, Kent and is a European
leader in the overhaul, repair and lease of all series Pratt & Whitney JT8D Engines having held their CAA /
EASA approval since 1991.
EASA 145/FAA 145 approved test cell facility
• Since 2003, Summit Aviation has independently owned and operated its own EASA
145/FAA 145 approved test cell facility at Gloucester Airport with current capability for the JT3D- 1 thru 7,
JT8D (std) all series and JT8D-200 series.
