Silicone seals by SPECPOL t.023 8083 9111

Aircraft seals are most commonly made from silicone resin for seals and gaskets.

Silicone resin is a type of thermosetting plastic. These plastics are not as common as many of the others, and this is probably largely due to the complicated process required to manufacture them, and to the necessarily high cost of the material.

Silicone resins do have a wide number of possible applications. They can be moulded into flexible or rigid products, extruded, used as laminating components, or used as protective coatings.

Perhaps the most prevalent application of silicone resin is in the formation of gaskets or aircraft seals, especially those which are cast in place on a final product. One such application is the silicone resin which will cure at room temperature in the open air, used to form the seal around windshields. Semiflexible silicone resin plastics are also used in extruded shapes. These silicone resin extrusions are typically used as gaskets and seals.
