Business Aviation Centres FBOs
Business Aviation is the operation or use of aircraft by companies for the carriage of passengers and goods as
an aid to the conduct of their business, flown for purposes other than public hire and piloted by individuals
having at the minimum a valid commercial pilot licence with an instrument rating. FBOs have been around a long time
but are now a growth industry. Regional airports in Europe, often in congested urban areas, can be unwelcoming of
general aviation aircraft. So location is everything when trying to combine state-of-the-art Business Aviation
Facilities on one site. Geographical location is everything when marketing the facilities.

Business Aviation is an air transport option tailored to the specific needs of company executives. It provides
efficient, productive and secure business travel to accomodate schedules and reach destinations not compatible with
the limitations set by commercial airline itineraries. The vast majority of business jets are used or owned by
governments and companies who make their aircraft available for transporting government officials, business
leaders, and sales and marketing teams, or to shuttle Engineers and Project Managers offsite. Less than 3% are
actually used privately. In the past, business aviation users were the larger corporations. Usership is now
expanding to include mid-tier management and mid-market firms. With the introduction of lower-cost light jets like
the Hondajet advanced light jet onto the market, this corporate segment is also able to capitalize on the many
benefits of private business travel to improve their productivity, effectiveness and value.
Business Aircraft Commercial Operators
Corporate Operators, where companies own or lease aircraft, and employ professional crews to fly the aircraft
for non-commercial operations is not the only example of the expanding market for business aircraft and business
aircraft maintenance.
Commercial operations with business aircraft are Air Charter operations. Also known as Air Taxi or Executive Air
Charter, Air Charter refers to the renting of an entire aircraft from a charter operator by a company or individual
to aid the conduct of their business. Commercial operations are always conducted by organizations holding an Air
Operators Certificates (AOCs), identical to those held by the major airlines.
Fractional Ownership
With Fractional Ownership, individuals or companies purchase a partial interest in an aircraft that is operated by
a fractional programme manager. Fractional owners have the right to use any comparable aircraft in the fleet, on
demand, for a predetermined number of hours each year. As with Commercial Operators, fractional programme managers
employ professional crews to fly the aircraft.

in for engineering work by Marshall Aerospace.
Global corporate aircraft maintenance.
This is mirrored throughout Europe with Piaggio Aero Industries announcing it recently signed an agreement with
Jet Aviation to select Jet Aviation Dusseldorf as Authorized Service Centers for the P.180 Avanti aircraft. Jet
Aviation Dusseldorf has already performed maintenance work for P.180 Avanti. The addition of the Dusseldorf
facility to the Piaggio Aero's service center network will further enhance the company's service and product
support to the growing P.180 Avanti fleet in Europe. Jet Aviation like Marshall Aerospace offer premium aircraft
maintenance.
In America meanwhile, GA airports serve as economic engines and are the lifelines to thousands of small to
mid-size communities throughout the country. General aviation's overall economic output in the U.S. is $150 billion
annually and the industry supports more than 1.2 million jobs.
Hawker Beechcraft Services (HBS) has announced the grand opening of its newly expanded, factory-owned aircraft
maintenance and service facility at Indianapolis International Airport (IND). The expansion marks a new chapter for
the facility, which has provided world-class service to the region for almost 40 years. The FAA-certified,
cutting-edge business aviation center specializes in Hawker and Beechcraft products, including the next-generation,
all-composite fuselage Premier and Hawker 4000 aircraft. The new facility includes a 7,700-square-foot line service
terminal operated by Signature Flight Support, a 47,300-square-foot maintenance hangar space and 23,000 square feet
of customer areas, administrative offices and back shops. Master Technicians, EASA-certified mechanics, and
knowledgeable, on-site factory technical representatives offer expert service. In addition to focusing on
maintenance, repair and modification of airframes, powerplants, and avionics systems, the Indianapolis HBS facility
offers world-class AOG support. The new HBS service center will also now be offering custom interior modification
services, with aircraft painting facilities.
Although economic recession in the States has created havoc in the short term, there can be no doubt that after
the crisis, business aviation corresponds to the needs of an increasingly global economy. The problems encountered
in the United States will not last as they do not reflect the real picture, which is that more than 80 percent of
Business Aviation passengers are Middle Managers, including sales staff, engineers and project managers, who play a
direct role in creating value.
Bhakari Aviation and Execujet South Africa, located at Lanseria International Airport in South Africa, recently
joined the Dassault Falcon Authorized Service Center Network. Lanseria is the most convenient business aviation
airport for Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city. Dassault Falcon has also reached an agreement with Palmali
at Ataturk Airport in Turkey to provide Business Aviation Service Center support. The Palmali facility will provide
AOG assistance as well as scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and warranty repair work for Falcon aircraft. It is
currently undergoing an EASA audit after which it will be granted full authorization to work on the Falcon 50, 2000
and 900 family of aircraft later this year. This location can cater for the growing number of Falcon operators in
the Middle East as well as increasing transient traffic.
The worldwide Falcon service and maintenance capacity is increasing at a rapid pace. In Europe alone capacity is
expected to expand up to 40% in the next 5 years. Falcon Customer Service has launched a 20 million dollar
investment program to extend the capacity of its own service stations in Le Bourget (Dassault Falcon Service) and
Little Rock. With the addition of the new partnerships reached, the Falcon network now includes 3 factory-owned and
30 Authorized Service Centers. The company also has nine spares distributions centers and three highly advanced
Technical Call centers for 24/7 support anywhere in the world.
Jet Aviation Hong Kong announced during Asian Aerospace that the company was named one of the Asian FAA repair
stations. This allows the company to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, airframe and engine repairs,
avionics modifications, inspections and defect rectifications on U.S. registered aircraft. As an FAA, Hong Kong CAD
and Cayman CAACI approved repair station, the facility now can also provide scheduled maintenance services in
addition to line maintenance and AOG support.
