Dunlop Equipment Aerospace Products
Dunlop Equipment, part of Meggitt Fluid Controls, designs, manufactures and supports a wide range of aerospace
products from its facility in the UK.
Design activities focus on developing pneumatic and fluid control solutions for use in demanding environments.
Products include environmental control valves, engine-mounted control valves, anti-icing valves, air/oil
separators, high temperature, high reliability solenoid valves and Retimet® products.
Dunlop Equipment has a global customer base and supports many long term sustainable programmes, in addition to
developing products for new applications using state-of-the-art technology.
Products
Engine air control valves - Dunlop Equipment manufactures a wide range of solenoid-actuated servo bleed
valves which are used to control air flow in the high and low pressure stages of jet engines and prevent the onset
of hazardous engine surge conditions. Operating within proven design rules, Dunlop Equipment bleed valves achieve
extreme reliability with a typical MTBF of 100,000 hours.
Anti-icing valves - Dunlop Equipment produces anti-icing valves suitable for deicing engine intake
nacelles, wings and other airframe structures. These valves are designed for sustained high temperature operation
and can be configured in normally open or shut variants. On/off control is achieved via a simple solenoid pilot
valve, maximising reliability with minimum costs.
Check and non-return valves - Often operating in very harsh environments, Dunlop Equipment pneumatic
check/non return valves provide unidirectional flow and safety shut down functions to a variety of aircraft
systems. These valves are designed to provide stable operation under a wide range of temperature and flow
conditions.
Pressure reducing valves - Dunlop Equipment has a long heritage in the design of pressure reducing
valves. Primarily designed for pneumatic applications, inlet pressures of up to 450 bar can be accommodated. Often
operating in harsh, high temperature environments, Dunlop Equipment's pressure-reducing valves are trusted by many
of the world's major airframe and engine manufacturers.
Solenoid valves - Designed for a variety of applications including the control of engine bleed valves,
Dunlop Equipment solenoid valves are cost-effective and offer very high levels of reliability in harsh environments
including long term operation at elevated temperatures. Designed within strict guidelines, these valves are used on
many engine platforms in service and have accumulated more than 300 million fleet hours.
Air/oil separators - In response to increasing regulation concerning the discharge of atmospheric
pollutants, Dunlop Equipment's wide range of air/oil separators provides an effective means of removing oil
particles from discharge air. Dunlop Equipment air/oil separators utilise Retimet®, a unique material developed by
Dunlop Equipment featuring three-dimensional metal foam structures which exhibit excellent properties when used as
the key element in centrifugal fluid/particle separators. Retimet® air/oil separators are now recognised by many
major jet engine manufacturers as offering the most reliable and cost-effective solution towards reducing oil
consumption. A full custom design service is available allowing performance and space envelope predictions to be
accurately made before hardware manufacture.
Environmental control valves - Dunlop Equipment manufactures a range of environmental control valves to
control temperature and pressure. This enables the safe and reliable use of engine or auxillary power unit bleed
air to control the environment within the cabin, cockpit or stowage compartments. From simple non-return valves to
highly efficient electro-mechanical regulators, Dunlop Equipment can meet the needs of the modern aircraft
system.
Retimet® - Retimet® is a special metal foam material developed and manufactured by Dunlop Equipment.
The material is versatile in shape and form and has extraordinary properties which render it suitable for very
diverse applications in harsh environments. Retimet® is an inert material which is resistant to temperatures up to
900°C. This allows it to be used in a variety of other applications such as noise attenuation, flame arrestors and
for flow straightening in ducting.
