High-reliability
seals and mouldings
DP Seals manufactures
custom rubber seals and mouldings to the highest levels of precision and
quality. These are custom rubber moldings for many of the world's leading civil and military, fixed
and rotary wing aerospace programmes. Global companies such as Eaton Aerospace and Moog rely on DP Seals’ materials
knowledge and AS9100B certified rubber moldings engineering experience, whether it’s for the oldest flying
Andoveror the latest Dreamliner and Black
Hawk.
Developing custom
rubber mouldings for demanding applications requires rubber custom molders with knowledge both of materials and
environment. From material blend selection through tool development and prototype mouldings to product delivery, DP
Seals works closely with some of the world’s leading aerospace engineers on the following
programmes:
Business

Rubber mouldings materials and
technology
Material selection is
key to long-term performance: aerospace seals and aerospace rubber mouldings must operate under wide temperature
and pressure ranges, with fuel oils and lubricants. From nitrile, neoprene and silicone through high-performance
Viton and FFKM to cutting edge polymers like silicone perfluoroelastomer and nanotech rubber, DP Seals uses its
rubber chemistry experience to work with compounders and develop the right polymer blend for your
application.
Engineering of moulding prototype tooling and tool development
DP Seals' extensive
CAD/CAM integration builds a direct, high-efficiency link from engineer's desktop to in-house tool room,
eliminating errors and ensuring moulding prototype tooling in optimum time without compromising precision or
quality. However, effective tool development requires more; it requires knowing how materials behave in manufacture
and how to section a tool to ensure a reliable end product. DP Seals has over 30 years experience in designing
rubber moulding tools, including in-tool rubber to metal bonding.
Production by polymer transfer
moulding
Tool and material
meet on the shop floor. DP Seals' polymer transfer moulding systems - characterised by low set-up times and high
accuracy, precision and repeatability - are ideal for short prototype runs as well as volume production across a
wide range of polymers. The biggest presses take significantly larger tooling allowing manufacture of larger, more
complex mouldings – such as anti-vibration mounts for jet fighter fuel pylons - as well as
increased batch sizes for high volume components integrated with Kanban and JIT-enabled processes. High performance
non-contact video measuring equipment is used to monitor on-going precision, with full SPC
analysis.
Product cleaning
DP Seals pioneered
cryogenic de-flashing and now has two of the most advanced fully automated CNC-controlled cryogenic de-flashing
machines of their kind in the world. Cryogenic de-flashing makes the essential cleaning process faster, more
efficient and more effective. These are two of six product-specific cleaning systems installed to ensure all output
is free from flashing and defects.
Quality control AS9100B custom
rubber mouldings
From initial design
through manufacture to final despatch, our rigorous quality process monitors every stage – regardless of production
volume. DP Seals' TQM approach to quality control is second to none. The company is one of a very select band of
custom rubber moulding companies in the world to achieve AS 9100B. It was also one of the first custom rubber
moulding companies in the UK to achieve ISO 9001. Although not strictly quality, we also have ISO 14001
Environmental Management and OHSA 18001 Occupational Health and Safety accreditations.
At DP Seals, our
passion to understand the cost and performance benefits presented by new polymers is underpinned by a continuous
investment in engineering and production processes. Involvement at the earliest stage lets us add real value to
your rubber component development, advising on materials, tooling and performance to help ensure your products meet
your expectations. Whether it's simple aerospace o-rings for a lubrication system, anti-vibration mounts, or cable
boots for an avionics cable loom, make DP Seals part of your development team and gain that all-important unseen
advantage.
