Boeing 747-400 support. 

In the early 1980s, Boeing decided to develop a B747 with an extended upper deck, designated B747-300. The seated area behind the flight deck was 23 feet (7 metres) longer than the earlier version.

However, the Boeing 747-300 was soon superceded by the Boeing 747-400, which began development in 1985. This new 747 was larger, more powerful, and had longer range than its predecessors. It had the 747-300's extended upper deck and as well as six-foot winglets on each wing tip to reduce drag. The new version could accommodate 416 to 524 passengers.

The Boeing 747-400 has been a success with over 600 units sold. Aircraft are highly complex products with millions of components and a large number of complex systems. The need for experienced Boeing 747-400 parts supply has increased proportionately.
