Landing gear repair
Aerotek Aviation Engineering have over the last 12 – 18 months been involved in extending our
premises to nearly double its original size and square footage.
This has been a very exciting period of growth in our company’s history. With much planning
required and good will from all of its employees, helping out at weekends to make the transition of our
processes from one unit to another.
After winning the Contract to overhaul and repair landing gear for the Army Missile and
Aviation Command Aerotek are AMCOM prime contractors. They are also M7 Aerospace Prime contractors, for the
Shorts SD3-60 C23B Military version, dating back to July 2005.
It was evident that larger premises would be required to deal
with the significant increase in workflow expected in 2009/2010.
Aerotek took a long and measured view of this challenge and set about its task. While at the
same time, ensuring that the quality and timeliness of its work did not impede the customers
requirements.

Aerotek have relocated all of its processes, including NDT ( non-destructive testing ),
Engineering Inspection, component Painting, hydraulic assembly and aerospace hydraulic testing into this new unit. Creating a bigger, brighter, and more organised work
space for its team. This has allowed the Aircraft Landing Gear
overhaul and also the repair of Actuators, accumulators, shock absorbers and various hydraulic valves to be
worked on with greater efficiency.
Aircraft wheel testing t.+44 1202 665551
As a guide, our non destructive testing capabilities have doubled, allowing Aerotek to test
any aircraft wheel, or aircraft single part up to 3 ft square in its Dye penetrant bay. We also have the
capability to perform Magnetic particle inspection MPI on such
items as Aircraft main landing gear sliding tubes shock absorbers up to 6 ft long, with a maximum amperage of
3000amps.
Our two hydraulic test rigs DTD585 mineral oil test rig or Skydrol 500B test rig have the
capability of producing 4,500 psi at a flow rate of 45-55 litres per minute, with a hand pump capable of
producing in excess of 10,000psi.
Our hydraulic Assembly and hydraulic testing bay has just recently done its first BAe146 Nose Landing Gear overhaul, along with landing gear side
stays, and Shock Absorbers, with great success.
This presented our Machining/engineering department with new aircraft test rigs jigs and
fixtures manufacture, Our Inspection team had much larger units to dimensionally inspect than they had
previously been used to.
Our hydraulic assembly and test engineers had to overcome working with high hydraulic pressure
engineering, learning how to test new complex steering control valves and cylinders.
