Aerospace shot peening
Aircraft engines and parts often require blasting, shot peening, and/or mass finishing to strengthen the
material, reduce surface variations, and increase the life of the part or component. Because of the precision and
aerodynamics required, the Wheelabrator Group treatment of aerospace and aircraft parts is a critical step in the
manufacturing process.
Tumble Blast Equipment - For batch processing of metal parts when part-on-part contact is not a
consideration.
Spinner Hanger or Hook Machines - High-volume cleaning of parts when part-on-part contact is not desirable.
Table Machines - Efficient blast method for parts with high vertical edges and deep pockets or for fragile and
thin walled parts.
Mass Finishing Equipment - Typically batch and continuous machines used to enhance the appearance of metal
parts.
Blastrooms and Paint Booths - For the cleaning and painting of fabrications and parts in a contained
environment.
Abrasive Airblast Blasters - For open-air or contained airblasting, Wheelabrator Group offers a vast selection
of blasters, parts and accessories.
Shot peening is the process used to produce a compressive residual stress layer in order to modify the
mechanical properties of metals for a number of reasons including corrosion prevention, metal fatigue improvement
and for peen forming purposes.
Wheelabrator Group sells and services both air blast and wheel blast peening equipment that has been
specifically developed for a number of industries including the demanding automotive, medical and aerospace
industries. Some of the peening systems Wheelabrator Group engineers and manufacturers include:
Automated air blast and CNC peening equipment
Tumblast or tumble blast machines
Spinner hanger machines
Monorail machines
Table machines
Removing grease and oils from parts can be a difficult task with great environmental responsibilities.
Wheelabrator Group has a full compliment of degreasing solutions to not only remove the grease from parts, but can
also include robust wastewater systems that can sort wastes from the reusuable water. These recycling systems help
customers to save by more efficiently handling wastes, as well as allowing for the cleansed water to be reused
again. Therefore, water usage and costs decrease along with waste removal costs.
The Wheelabrator Group end-to-end degreasing solution includes:
Parts washing machines
Ultrasonic machines
Immersion systems
Spray wash systems
Cleaning solutions
Oil/water separators
TUMBLE BLAST EQUIPMENT
The removal of a coating is a necessary step prior to painting or preservation of any metal component and can be
accomplished in a variety of ways. Wheelabrator Group provides customers with environmentally responsible methods
of coating removal using either air blast or wheel blast technologies and can be incorporated into a painting
system for a complete, turnkey blast and paint system. Depending on the customer’s needs, Wheelabrator Group may
recommend one of several of our coating removal solutions which may include:
Tumblast or tumble blast machines
Mesh belt machines
Spinner hangers machines
Barrel blaster machines
Blast and paint rooms
Table machines
Polishing a surface to a smooth, high luster can have both an aesthetic purpose as well as the additional
benefit of reduced friction between parts. Based on the size, value, or the geometry of your parts, Wheelabrator
Group may recommend either batch processing with a vibratory bowl or individual part processing through drag
finishing. Contact the Wheelabrator Group Surface Technology Center and allow us to demonstrate our capabilities
and the types of different finishes that can be achieved using:
• Bowl and Tub Vibratory Machines
• In-line and Trough Vibratory Machines
• Continuous Circular and Linear Vibratory Equipment
• Centrifugal Disc Machines
• Drag finishing machines
