Aerospace products ...

This is a huge topic referring to either finished manufactured aircraft components, or to products used in the manufacturing process and aircraft mro.

Commercial aircraft manufacture with semi-monocoque fuselages

This is the preferred method of constructing an all-aluminium fuselage. First, a series of frames in the shape of the fuselage cross sections are held in position on a rigid fixture. These frames are then joined with lightweight longitudinal elements called stringers. These are in turn covered with a skin of sheet aerospace aluminium, attached by aerospace rivets or by bonding with special aerospace adhesives. The fixture is then disassembled and removed from the fuselage, which is then fitted out with wiring, controls, and interior equipment such as aircraft seats and luggage bins. Most modern large aircraft are built using this technique, but use several large sections constructed in this fashion which are then joined with aerospace fasteners to form the complete fuselage. As the accuracy of the final product is determined largely by the costly fixture, this form is suitable for series production, where a large number of identical aircraft are to be produced.

Long before the aircraft is even assembled, aerospace products are high technology products which companies refine for years. Take aerospace abrasives...For over 110 years, Norton Abrasives has provided innovative products and solutions. Whether you're sanding a piece of furniture, finishing a turbine blade or slicing a semiconductor component, (all of these are in an aircraft) you use abrasives. Today, Norton manufactures and distributes the widest range of abrasives and related products for the industrial marketplace.

Norton is the world's leading supplier of bonded abrasives, with more than 250,000 types and sizes, most custom-designed and engineered for specific applications. They are also a leading manufacturer of coated abrasive products, offering more than 38,000 types of coated products with a variety of abrasive grains and backings.

Superabrasive diamond and cubic boron nitride (CBN) grinding wheels and diamond tools usage is growing in cutting tool production and maintenance, automotive, bearing, ceramic, tool & die, glass, aerospace, electronic, composite, and other advanced materials industries.

Similarly, aerospace adhesive tapes is an immensely complex subject...Stokvis Tapes supplies a complete range of quality products to the aerospace industry including: airplane manufacturers, their sub-contractors, repair and maintenance shops and individual airlines. To help solve all bonding, isolating, sealing, protecting, shielding needs, a complete range of self adhesive tape for the aerospace industry, products that are approved by the FAA, produced according to military specifications.

Aerospace bearings illustrates the huge number of manufacturers and brands that often chase the aerospace market, Allpower Mfg bushings, Ampep Aerospace bearings, Fafnir bearings, Glacier Garlock bearings, Heim RBC TRansport Dynamics, McGill Aerospace Bearings, Frankenjura Bearings, GMN ball bearings, MPB Aerospace bearings, NMB miniature bearings, P.S.I. Bearings, Rexnord Aerospace, Specline Bearings, US Bearings.

aerospace chemicals have a wide range of applications ... cabin maintenance, deodorizing, engine cleaning, wiping and cleaning of avionics displays, removing chewing gum from cabin carpets.

New technological developments are frequent. Amphenol Aerospace (AAO), division of Amphenol Corporation, formerly Bendix, is the leading manufacturer of cylindrical aerospace connectors in the world. Amphenol Aerospace's product line consists of rectangular, fiber optic, EMI/EMP filter, and a variety of special application connectors. The Amphenol® Clutch-LOK™ is the latest in MIL-DLT-38999, Series III Connector Technology. The Clutch-LOK™ Connector is designed especially for high vibration, harsh environments such as aircraft gas turbine engines. Amphenol's unique clutch design means that you don't have to compromise the need for quick, smooth mating of plugs and receptacles in order to get increased uncoupling torque.

With over 100 years of service to the fastener industry, Monogram Aerospace Fasteners has established itself as the recognized leader in blind bolts technology in the aerospace industry. The only rotary-actuated fasteners in general aerospace use are the Visu-Lok® and Composi-Lok® fasteners; both of which were invented, patented, and trademarked by Monogram headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The Visu-Lok® fastener pioneered blind fastener technology and for over a quarter century has remained an integral part of aircraft assembly.

With the advent of composite aircraft structures came new fastener challenges. Again Monogram led the way with a blind fastener design that achieved consistent high preload without the risk of composite delamination. Today Composi-Lok® is approved on virtually all composite airframe programs throughout the world.

Unique in the industry is Monogram's Radial-Lok® blind bolt. Offering 360° radial expansion throughout the fastener grip, its design properties are unmatched by any other blind bolt.

The latest in Monogram’s succession of innovative offerings are the OSI-Bolt® and the Ti-OSI™, a direct replacement for solid shank pin and collar systems. Both reflect Monogram’s commitment to a lower total installed cost design philosophy.

Common to the Visu-Lok® II, Composi-Lok II and Radial-Lok® is Monograms ingenious Drive Nut Concept. This patented design significantly reduces tooling requirements while achieving additional cost savings through trouble- free installation.

Monogram remains committed to its leadership role in fastener development and is currently working on bringing other problem solving solutions to the industry.

Aerospace plastics and aerospace rubber products are another area where the constant striving for weight saving and efficiency drives innovation in the industry. AIRCRAFT seat cushions made from Basotect melamine foam could pay for themselves from fuel savings in just two months, according to BASF. Basotect foam has a density of less than 10 kg/[m.sup.3]. This is so much less than polyurethanes that the weight saving can be up to 1 kg for an economy class seat and as much as 4 kg for a business class or first class seat. The 555-seater Airbus A380 aircraft could be all of 600 kg lighter with the new seating.

We've talked about connectors, we should not overlook components within components, classically aerospace electronic components, capacitors, chokes, diodes, integrated circuits, microwave components, rectifiers, relays, resistors, semiconductors, switches and transistors.

Aerospace manufactured components produced to machining as9100 approval are not just innovative, advances are measured by how machined components are produced to ever finer tolerances. Aerospace gears are used throughout aircraft and aircraft equipment. Types of gear include spur and helical gears, worms and worm wheels, involute splines, chain sprockets, timing belt pulleys, internal gears, and straight sided serrations.

While product certification is becoming more rigorous it is now globalised. castings as/en9100 approved nadcap approved castings and as9100 certified forgings are all to a global standard, nadcap being the industry's own worldwide co-operative standard.
